Scripture
2 Peter 1:3–4 (Greek NT / ESV) ὡς πάντα ἡμῖν τῆς θείας δυνάμεως αὐτοῦ τὰ πρὸς ζωὴν καὶ εὐσέβειαν δεδωρημένης His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

Word Study

θείας κοινωνοὶ

theias koinŏnŏį · Greek NT

“partakers of the divine nature”

koinŏnos means sharer or participant; theias (divine) points to God’s own nature. Theologians call this theosis or divinization—not that humans become God, but that through Christ we genuinely share in and are transformed by the divine life and character.

Reflection

From the writers we read together

J. P. Moreland

Philosopher; Talbot School of Theology

“God has given us everything we need for a flourishing life with Him.” — The Kingdom Triangle, chapter 3

Peter’s claim is breathtaking: everything necessary for life and godliness has already been granted. Not promised as a future hope alone, but given—past tense, divine power, complete provision. The knowledge of God is not a hurdle to clear before growth begins; it is the very channel through which divine life flows to us.

Moreland emphasizes that spiritual formation is about participation, not performance—entering into what God has already provided rather than earning what He has withheld. Today, nothing is missing from what you need to walk with God. The question is not ‘Do I have enough?’ but ‘Am I drawing on what I have?’

Prayer
Heavenly Father, King of the Universe, Father, thank You that Your divine power has already granted everything I need. Teach me to draw on Your provision rather than striving in my own strength. Amen.
