Pleasant Springs Church • ps-church.com

Scripture
Revelation 22:1–3 (Greek NT / ESV) Καὶ ἔδειξέν μοι ποταμὸν ὕδατος ζωῆς λαμπρὸν ὡς κρύσταλλον, ἐκπορευόμενον ἐκ τοῦ θρόνου τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τοῦ ἀρνίου Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life … No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it.

Word Study

ὕδατος ζωῆς

hudatos zŏēs · Greek NT

“water of life”

The phrase echoes Ezekiel 47 and Jesus's offer of living water (John 4, 7). The river flows from the throne—divine life originates in God's presence and radiates outward. The tree of life on both banks (twelve crops, leaves for healing) echoes Eden's garden but surpasses it: there is no longer any curse.

“The final chapter of the Bible brings us back to the garden—but better.” — BibleProject Revelation series

The Bible ends where it began—in a garden, with water, with a tree of life—but everything the first garden lacked is now present. No serpent. No curse. No exile. The river flows freely from the throne, and its banks are lined with healing trees. The Eden that was lost is restored and exceeded.

BibleProject helps us see that Genesis 3's expulsion from the garden and tree of life is answered here: 'No longer will there be anything accursed.' The long curse, which touched everything from agriculture to childbirth to death itself, is ended. The hope you carry for restoration—personal, communal, creational—is not wishful thinking. It is the direction history is moving.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, King of the Universe, Lord, let the river of Your life flow through me today. I am thirsty for Your presence. Let me drink freely from what flows from Your throne. Amen.
