Joy Inexpressible
1 Peter 1:8–9

William MacDonald — beloved Bible teacher and author of Believer's Bible Commentary, whose accessible devotional writing has discipled generations worldwide.
ἀνεκλαλήτῳ
aneklalētŏ · Greek NT“inexpressible / beyond words”
aneklalētos combines a- (without) and eklaleo (to speak out); this joy exceeds the capacity of human language to fully express. It is heavenly in origin, not merely emotional in source.
Peter addresses people who have never physically seen Jesus—yet they love Him and believe in Him. Their joy is not rooted in sight but in the reality of who Christ is and what He has accomplished. This inexpressible, glory-filled joy is available to every believer in every generation.
Notice that the joy precedes the full experience of salvation—it is joy in the midst of trials (v.6), not joy at the end of them. MacDonald reminds us that this joy is not manufactured by willpower but released by faith. Where can you choose to believe more fully today and let that belief stir this deep, untranslatable gladness?
