Jail Ministry
Fifteen-minute Bible lessons we teach inside the jail, for the men's side and the women's side. Free to print, free to teach.
Pleasant Springs Church goes into the jail to open the Bible with the men and women held there. Every lesson here is short enough to teach in one sitting and written in plain words, with Scripture from the ESV.
Most lessons come as a pair: a Leader Guide with the full script and timings, and a Disciple Handout for each person in the room to keep. Both come in large print too. Take them and use them. Any church or chaplain may print and copy them. No permission needed.
What Goes on God's Altar? — Five Offerings for a Holy People
Leviticus 1–7 · Romans 12:1 · 1 Peter 2:9
You can't bring a bull into a cell — but you can bring every offering in Leviticus from right here. Five hands: all of me, my work, peace, I confess, I make it right. Jesus already paid for sin, and the word for the perfect offering, “without blemish,” is the word God uses for you.

⬇ Leader GuideLarge printSlow Ground — Children, Fields, and Letting Go
Genesis 3:16–19 · Psalm 46:10 · James 5:7–8
Raising a child and working the ground are the same kind of slow work — God uses one word for both in Genesis 3. Neither can be rushed, and that is how He grows patience. “Be still” means open your hand: you are not in control, and God is. Then the turn: who has been patient with you?

⬇ Leader GuideLarge printTwo Family Trees — and One King
Matthew 1 · Luke 3 · Jeremiah 22:30
One of the big arguments people use to say the Bible isn't true: Matthew and Luke give Jesus two different family trees, and a curse sits on the king's line. Here is the solution — Jesus is King by law through Joseph and King by blood through Mary, and the virgin birth makes both true.

⬇ Leader GuideLarge printThe Four Loves — and the God Who Is Love
1 John 4:8–10 · 1 Corinthians 13:4–7 · John 13
C. S. Lewis named four loves: affection, friendship, romance, and charity. In the Bible, love is not first a feeling. It is something you do, for someone — and God is love because He sent His Son.

⬇ Leader GuideLarge printHold On: Your Faith Was Not for Nothing
1 Corinthians 15:1–2
“You are being saved” — present tense. God is not done with you. Real faith is a hand that holds on, and under your hand is His.
The Cup: How Jesus Took Your Sentence
Psalm 75 · Matthew 26 · 1 Corinthians 10
God has a cup of justice, and someone has to drink it. A lesson on the sentence Jesus took in our place, with a word study from the Septuagint.
A Mother’s Release: Hannah and Samuel
1 Samuel 1:24–28
Hannah begged God for a son, then gave him back. What it means to lend what you love to the Lord — and to be the child someone prayed for.
- Never mention anyone's charges, case, or court date, not even as a light example.
- Don't ask who has children. For many people in the room, someone else is raising their kids right now.
- Forgiving and being patient never means going back to be hurt. Say so plainly if anyone hears it that way.
