ἠγόρασας
ēgorasas · Greek NT“you ransomed / you purchased”
agorazŏ means to buy in the marketplace—the verb of redemption. The Lamb purchases people from every ethnicity and language not with silver or gold but with His own blood. The breadth—'every tribe, language, people, nation'—signals that the new covenant community crosses all human boundaries.
When no one in heaven or earth could open the scroll of history, John wept—until an elder says: the Lion of Judah has conquered. And what does John see? A Lamb, looking as if it had been slain. The power that governs history is not raw force but self-giving love. The Lamb is worthy precisely because He was slain.
BibleProject helps us see that this new song is the song of the redeemed—purchased from every tribe and language and nation. The church's diversity is not incidental but intrinsic to the new song. Your participation in the community of the Lamb is part of what makes the song possible. Sing it today, even in ordinary moments.
