War Arose in Heaven
Revelation 12:7–9

Michael Heiser — Old Testament scholar and author of The Unseen Realm, whose expertise in divine-council theology and cosmic spiritual warfare illuminates what Revelation 12 actually depicts.
κατήγωρ
katēgŏr · Greek NT“accuser”
The dragon is identified in v.10 as 'the accuser of our brothers.' katēgoros is the legal opponent in court—the one who lodges charges. Satan's primary activity in the unseen realm is prosecutorial accusation before God. Christ's atoning work silences the prosecution once and for all.
Revelation 12 pulls back the veil on a war that has been running since before Eden. The dragon—the ancient serpent, the deceiver—is cast down in defeat, his access to the heavenly court severed by the blood of the Lamb. This is not mythology; it is the cosmic background against which every human life plays out.
Heiser's work helps modern readers recover the seriousness of the unseen realm. The spiritual opposition you face is real, but it is fought by a defeated enemy. The accuser's charges against you have been answered—not by your defense but by Christ's blood. You stand before God without a prosecution.
