Its Lamp Is the Lamb
Revelation 21:22–23

BibleProject — Tim Mackie and Jon Collins' biblical literacy platform, whose tracing of the temple theme from Eden through Jerusalem to the New Jerusalem illuminates why the absence of a temple is the ultimate good news.
λύχνος αὐτῆς τὸ ἀρνίον
luchnos autēs to arnion · Greek NT“its lamp is the Lamb”
luchnos is a hand-held lamp or lantern—intimate, personal light. The image is striking: the cosmic city's light source is not a star or a sun but a Lamb. Glory flows through the person of Christ, filling every corner of the new creation with the light of God's presence without need of any mediated source.
Every temple in Scripture was a place where heaven and earth overlapped—where God's presence was accessible. Eden, the tabernacle, Solomon's temple, the post-exilic temple, the body of Jesus, the gathered church—each was a preview. In the New Jerusalem, the preview is over: God Himself and the Lamb are the temple. There are no barriers left.
BibleProject shows how the temple story ends not with a building but with a Person. The Lamb is the lamp—Christ is the inexhaustible source of light in the new creation. What you have access to in prayer and worship now is a foretaste of what will be unmediated, eternal reality. Draw near today.
