Christ Entered Once for All
Hebrews 9:11–12

E. Stanley Jones — Methodist missionary and author of Abundant Living, whose preaching on the complete sufficiency of Christ's atonement reassured millions that no repeated sacrifice or additional work is needed.
ἐφάπαξ
ephapax · Greek NT“once for all / once and for all time”
ephapax (from epi + hapax, upon + once) marks absolute finality. The Levitical high priest entered the Holy of Holies annually; Christ entered once. That one entry secured not a temporary covering but aiŏnian lutrŏsin—eternal redemption. No repetition is needed, possible, or appropriate.
The entire sacrificial system of the Old Covenant pointed toward a day when the repetition would stop—when one offering would accomplish permanently what thousands of lambs and bulls could only foreshadow. Hebrews announces that day: Christ entered once, secured eternal redemption, and sat down. The work is finished.
Jones preached across India to people burdened by religious systems that required endless ritual merit. His message was the same as Hebrews: once for all. You do not need to keep earning what has already been completely purchased. Your debt is not being serviced—it is cancelled. Live from a finished transaction.
