Jesus distinguishes His peace from the world's: the world gives a peace contingent on circumstances—when things go well, you feel at peace. Jesus gives His own peace—the peace of a Son who knows His Father perfectly and trusts Him completely. This peace is not disrupted by circumstances because it does not depend on them.

Manning taught that the deepest enemy of peace is the 'impostor self'—the anxious performer who believes love must be earned.
