This Gospel Will Be Proclaimed
Matthew 24:14

BibleProject — Tim Mackie and Jon Collins' biblical literacy platform, whose work on the gospel of the kingdom helps modern readers understand what Jesus meant by 'gospel' and why its global proclamation is the precondition of the end.
εὐαγγέλιον τῆς βασιλείας
euangelion tēs basileias · Greek NT“gospel of the kingdom”
euangelion (good news) + basileias (of the kingdom). Jesus's gospel is not merely a message about how to go to heaven but the announcement of God's royal rule breaking into the world through Christ. This good news must be proclaimed (kēruchtēsetai, passive—it will be proclaimed, God will ensure it) to all nations (panta ta ethnē) before the consummation.
Jesus places the global proclamation of the kingdom gospel as the final sign before the end. This is not a timetable for prediction but a commission for participation: the church is the instrument through which this proclamation happens. History is moving toward a defined endpoint, and the church is central to the journey.
BibleProject helps us see that 'the gospel' Jesus meant was richer than a four-point salvation plan—it was the announcement of the King's arrival and reign. Your participation in proclaiming this gospel—in your community, your relationships, your service—is not optional background activity. It is part of what moves history toward its destination.
