The Grace of the Lord Jesus Be with All
Revelation 22:21

Brennan Manning — former Franciscan priest and author of The Ragamuffin Gospel, whose entire ministry was a meditation on grace as the Bible's first word, last word, and only word—making him the fitting voice for the Bible's final benediction.
χάρις
charis · Greek NT“grace / undeserved favor / gift”
charis is the New Testament's definitive word for God's free, unmerited, overflowing generosity toward humanity in Christ. It is not a transaction but a gift; not a response to merit but its override. That the entire Bible—Genesis through Revelation—ends with a grace benediction is the most eloquent theological statement in all of Scripture: from beginning to end, it is grace.
The Bible's last word is grace. Not law. Not achievement. Not a final checklist of what you must still accomplish. Grace. The word that began the new covenant age—'grace and truth came through Jesus Christ' (John 1:17)—is also the word that closes the canon. Revelation ends where the gospel begins: with an unearned, freely given gift.
Manning spent his life helping the ragamuffins—the broken, the failing, the ones who knew they did not deserve a place at the table—understand that grace was exactly for them. You have spent 365 days in this Word. You are not more worthy of grace today than on Day 1. But grace has been with you every step. And it will be with you still tomorrow. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.
