Growing God’s Fruit

Galatians 5:22-23 & John 15

🌱 Imagine This…

You take a tiny seed and push it into the dirt. You water it every day. You wait and wait. Then one morning—a little green sprout pokes through! It keeps growing, and soon you see beautiful fruit hanging from the branches. Apples! Oranges! Berries!

But here’s the cool part: you didn’t make the fruit. You didn’t glue it on or paint it. The fruit just grew because the seed was alive inside!

Did you know that God does the same thing inside of you? Let’s find out how!

1 The Seed — God’s Love Inside You

When you believe in Jesus, something amazing happens. God plants a special seed right inside your heart! This isn’t a regular seed like the ones in a garden—it’s the living Word of God.

“For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.” 1 Peter 1:23 (NLT)

That means when you ask Jesus into your heart, a brand-new life starts growing inside you! It’s God’s life—and it lasts forever and ever.

2 The Vine — Staying Connected to Jesus

Have you ever seen a grapevine? The big main vine goes into the ground, and lots of little branches grow out of it. The branches get all their water and food from the vine. If a branch falls off—uh oh! It dries up because it can’t get what it needs anymore.

“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 (NLT)

Jesus says He is the vine, and we are the branches! When we stay close to Jesus—by praying, singing worship songs, listening to Bible stories, and being kind—His love flows right into us, just like water flows through a vine into a branch.

The word “remain” means to stay put. In the old Greek language, the word is menō. It means “don’t let go!” Stay connected to Jesus like a branch stays connected to a tree.

3 The Fruit — 9 Good Things That Grow!

When we stay connected to Jesus, something wonderful starts to grow inside us. The Bible calls it the Fruit of the Spirit. In Greek, the word for fruit is karpos. And guess what? There are 9 amazing fruits!

“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)
❤️ Love Caring for others the way God cares for you
😊 Joy Being happy deep down inside, even on hard days
🕊️ Peace Feeling safe and calm inside because God is with you
Patience Waiting without getting upset or angry
💛 Kindness Being nice and helpful to everyone around you
Goodness Doing what is right because God’s love is in you
🤝 Faithfulness Always keeping your promises, just like God does
🌸 Gentleness Being soft and careful with people’s feelings
🚦 Self-Control Being able to stop and think before you act

4 You Don’t Have to Try So Hard!

Here’s the best news of all: you don’t have to force yourself to grow this fruit. A branch doesn’t squeeze really hard and say, “Come on, grapes! GROW!” That would be silly! The fruit just grows naturally because the branch is connected to the vine.

It’s the same with you and Jesus! When you stay close to Him, the Fruit of the Spirit grows all by itself. Here are some ways to stay connected:

  • Pray — Talk to Jesus like you talk to your best friend
  • Listen to Bible stories — God speaks to you through His Word
  • Worship and sing — Singing praise fills your heart with joy
  • Be kind to others — Let God’s love flow through you
  • Go to church — We grow better together with friends!

When you do these things, don’t be surprised when you start being more patient with your brother or sister, or when you feel peace even when things are scary. That’s God’s fruit growing in you!

🎨 Activity: Color the Fruit Tree!

Draw a big, beautiful tree with 9 fruits hanging from the branches. On each fruit, write one of the Fruit of the Spirit:

  1. Love
  2. Joy
  3. Peace
  4. Patience
  5. Kindness
  6. Goodness
  7. Faithfulness
  8. Gentleness
  9. Self-Control

On the trunk of the tree, write: “JESUS IS THE VINE”. Then color your tree with your favorite colors! Which fruit do you want God to grow in you the most?
